Wiring Upgrades

Wiring Upgrades

Does your home have knob and tube wiring, aluminum branch electrical wiring, or an ungrounded two wire home electrical wiring system? Are you in the process of selling your home and you need to make electrical safety corrections pending the sale? You may have also had some fire, water, or other structural damage that will require some new home wiring. Whether you are repairing damaged electrical systems or need to upgrade your house wiring, Barney’s Electric can take care of all your electrical rewiring needs.

If your home was wired in the 1940’s or earlier, you may have knob and tube wiring. Knob and tube wiring does not provide a third electrical wire for grounding and is therefore considered unsafe in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and outdoors. Also, most homes wired with knob and tube wiring do not have the circuit capacity, nor are they properly sized, for the demand of today’s appliances and wiring standards as established by The National Fire Protection Association. Many modern electronics and appliances require ground wiring. Knob and tube wiring is not suitable and not safe for these items and could cause damage to them, or even worse, the potential loss of life should an electrical fault occur that a grounded system could have prevented.

After knob and tube wiring came two wire home electrical wiring systems. Two wire home electrical wiring systems have some of the same inherent problems as knob and tube. There is no third electrical wire for grounding and is considered unsafe when used outdoors, in laundry rooms, bathrooms, and in kitchens. Additionally, many of our modern electronics and appliances require a solidly grounded electrical system.. As in the case of knob and tube wiring, two wire home electrical wiring systems are not suitable or safe for these items and could cause damage to them, or again, there exists the potential for loss of life as the result of a failure.

If your home was wired in the late 1960’s there is a chance it has aluminum branch electrical wiring. Branch electrical wiring is the wires that connect your receptacles, switches, lights, and other electrical devices. The problem with aluminum electrical wiring lies with the durability of aluminum and the dangers of heat build up due to improperly sized wire for the smaller 15 and 20 amp circuits common to household electrical wiring. Additionally, where the wires wrap around the terminals in the switches, receptacles, or other devices, over time, the wires can disintegrate and also create a fire hazard.

Our licensed electricians at Barney’s Electric will arrive in fully stocked vans, ready to take care of all your electrical needs. With over 30 years of residential electrical experience we can assist you in bringing your home up to today’s NEC requirements and to the standards of the National Fire Protection Association.

Barneys electric dug a trench, created a conduit, and ran electricity out to the alley. This created an electric outlet for our electronic fence gate. They were reasonably priced, responsive, and knowledgeable about the work they do! They respond to calls quickly and got the job done in a timely manner. Will definitely use them again!!

Barney and his guys came out the next day to replace a panel that had totally burned up preventing us from using our A/C in this heatwave. They didn't have to do this next day and they could have told me to wait until next week (like some of the other companies did). Barney understood that this was an emergency and came out after they already did a panel installation earlier that day (this is a time-consuming job) squeezing me in with other appointments. They worked quickly in the 100+ heat and did an excellent job. I'm very happy with the quality of the work at a reasonable price and Barney and his crew are a great team and were actually a pleasure to be around! I will use these guys much more in the future.

5 stars all the way! Barney is the man and gets the job done. I had an issue after some contractors came to my house where I did not have lights working upstairs even though I had power coming through some outlets. I had a big name electrician company spend hours trying to resolve the issue. They were very friendly but after hours they could not find the source of the problem and told me it would cost over a thousand dollars to troubleshoot. I found Barney online for a second opinion and he found the problem and resolved the issue and even fixed my ceiling fan! Thank you Barney, you were awesome and I will gladly recommend you to anybody that needs electric work done.
